Bridging Units: Analysis of Music Magazine Cover

This is an analysis of Wordplay magazine, Classical Music magazine and Rock Sound magazine front covers.

·         There are few images on Wordplay, however the use of graphic has enhanced the imagery, which suits the target audience. This varies vastly from Rock Sound and Classical, as no graphics have been used, however on Classic Music the photo has been edited more to make it appear clearer. A similarity between them is that they are all shot at the same distance and angle.

·         On Classic Music, the colours used at minimalistic, and simple, which allows the imagery to stand out more, which is similar to both Rock Sound and Wordplay, however those experiment with more brighter colours.

·         Rock Sound has the most incentives on the front to get people to buy the magazine, such as free gifts and sweets, as well as the most insight into what the rest of the magazine has. This is different to Wordplay which has almost nothing. Classical Music features a few of the articles inside.

·         All 3 magazines work with at least 3 different fonts, and all the titles are clear and at the top. However, on Rock Sound there is font around the majority of the cover, which is also overlapping, unlike Classical Music which is clean-cut.

·         The feature on Wordplay is centred and unobstructed,
similar to Classical Music which is closer to the left.

·         Rock Sound cost £3.99 per issue, however a subscription to Classical Music is £4.95.
